Happy Cows and Happy Deer

I was a little sad because of all the downing of so many trees on the farm. Then when we went to check on the cows, they were at the tree buffett! They were happy cows because they love the tree leaves. The deer on the other hand, like all the acorns!! They don't even have to rear up on their back legs! Ahhhhh, life is good! Until the weather turns cold and we get some rain; then Kevin hits the woods for a little bow hunting!

IKE PICS

Two weeks ago Kevin rebuilt the cow corral so that we could spray and tag our cows. What fun! Of Course, never got around to tagging the cows, only spraying them down to keep the flies away. THAT is another story all together! ANYWAY, a tree crashed through our nice, new corral. They always say around here that what ever you do on Sunday you have to redo another day! INDEED!

Then, Kevin in all his wisdom, decided to throw his work cloths in the laundry in the midst of IKE No, Jenn, he can do his own laundry and pack his own bag! Of course, the washer did it's job but Kevin did not throw the clothes in the dryer before the power went out. Did I mention power was out for three days and Kevin had to leave the next morning. Whats a guy to do!? You got it! When there is no clothes line use the next best thing; the barbed wire fence! Kevin took his clothes out and hung them over the fence. See, Jenn, the Army taught your dad self-sufficiency!

Hurricane Ike's Path

We knew Hurricane Ike, or the remnant's of Hurricane Ike were headed our way. We slept upstairs and around 6 am we heard some pretty wild gusts of wind. I finally got up around 7:30 because I heard Kevin chasing pillows outside. Kevin got a new handy dandy Oregon Professional Wind Station and when he checked it the wind gust was up to 28 mph. So we decided to get on our 4-wheeler and go take a drive around the property to check things out. We found several trees down around the farm (pictures to follow) but when we go back to Delmus', we found that a gust came through and wiped out his tree which fell on his power line which fell on his fence and subsequently snapped his power pole next to his house like a twig. The power lines dangled over the left of the street so the "men" had to stand around and make sure that no cars hit the exposed wires. Not only at Delmus' but all over the tri-state area. And yes, power was indeed knocked out. For 2 days for us and 4 for Delmus and 7 for some. Come to find out that as we left for our trek around the farm, and 83 MPH gust came through. BUT we did not get any rain to speak of!! Our grass is BURNED up! It would have been worth it all if we had got the 2-4 inches of rain they said we would get. Oh! Wait! We were out of school for a day! There was a silver lining after all!! YEA!
